4c Natural Hair Care

I get so many questions about my hair – here is my ENTIRE routine for my 4A – C natural hair:

Daily

I shower WITHOUT a shower cap and let the steam moisturize my hair each day. I then seal it with an oil blend by guru Naptural85.

For premixed oils, I love Alikay Naturals’ Growth Oil and The Mane Choice’s Growth Oil.

Shampoo and Conditioner

Gotta be honest – I use medicated shampoo, so I don’t have a ton of shampoo suggestions. I used to use Miss Jessie’s Super Slip Shampoo but that appears to be discontinued. Here are a few of my suggestions for prepoos, conditioners, and cowashes.

My favorite co-wash is actually not a co-wash at all – it’s Miss Jessie’s Creme de la Creme Conditioner. It makes my hair SO soft. I know Miss Jessie’s makes a co wash but I’ve never tried it.

The Mane Choice Prepoo is TOP NOTCH, especially when you haven’t washed your hair in a while. like after a protective style. It makes detangling so much easier.

I’m not super picky about deep conditioners. My favorites are TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask Deep ConditionerTGIN Rose Water Hydrating Hair MaskThe Mane Choice Mane Choice Alpha Mask.

I ONLY use the Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner. I also only brush my hair with Felicia Leatherwood’s brush after putting on my conditioner. Prior to this step (ie during the shampoo and deep conditioner phase) its finger detangling only.

Twist Out

For my twist out, I section my hair into 4, then do 3 flat twists per section. So I get my signature look with a mere 12 flat twists. Here are the products, in the order I use them:

  1. A generous spritz of aloe vera juice
  2. Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave In OR The Mane Choice 3-in-1 Leave In
  3. Pomegranate & Honey Twisting Soufflé

I used Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue for YEARS and still think its a good product. I also REALLY liked Gabrielle Union’s Leave In and Defining Curl Cream, which I tried through Curlbox. It is also very affordable.

Wash and Go

It was my MISSION in the pandemic to master my Wash and Go and it was NOT easy. I was literally about to give up because my Wash and Gos were not working. But I tried one last time and I GOT IT!

For technique, I went back to Naptural85, but my texture is nothing like hers. SO I had to play with products. I DO NOT diffuse because the one time I tried my hair looked a whole fool.

I section my hair in 6 roughly equal sections – 3 on each side. Then I handle each section, one half at a time. I soak the half section with water then apply the following products in this order:

  1. A generous spritz of aloe vera juice
  2. Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave In OR The Mane Choice 3-in-1 Leave In
  3. Alikay Naturals Creme Brûlée Curling Delight
  4. Pomegranate & Honey Coil Sculpting Custard
  5. Pomegranate & Honey Twisting Soufflé

Then I shingle the curls as the clump. I stretch each section with coil hair ties and let it air dry. It’s fine if your hair not completely dry when you take it out. I put the hair ties back in at night. And when I’m over that, I will just pull it into a puff. My wash and go will normally last a week, then I can wear the puff for a week.

My hair does not tend to have a white cast but it does flake when manipulated in the wash and go.

That is all. Leave any questions in the comments.
