Buying Preloved Luxury

We’ve talked defining luxury for yourself, but let’s face it – sometimes luxury means STUFF. But just because you like nice things, doesn’t mean you have to pay full price. I have been a part-time reseller for nearly 10 years and I have learned a thing or two about buying second hand as well. Here are a few of my favorite sites:

The Real Real

The Real Real is my absolute favorite site for shoes and occasionally clothes. I appreciate that they include measurements in the listings to ensure a perfect fit. The following video will show you my method for setting up the best searches on The Real Real to make shopping easy.

Poshmark

I can find almost anything on Poshmark. Whenever I see something I like, I string together a basic search and almost always come up with a hit. In addition to selling a ton on Poshmark, I buy quite a bit (rather impulsively) on Poshmark. This video walks you through my searching method for finding almost anything on Poshmark.

If you want to see some of my purchases from Poshmark & The Real Real, all of my shoes in the following video are from The Real Real and the Zac Posen x Target dress (top right) is from Poshmark.

OTHER SITES:

*I* haven’t purchased from Fashionphile yet but I convinced my mother to do so and she LOVES her Fendi and Gucci bag. (I have also staked my claim for the Fendi bag when she’s done with it). I recommend Fashionphile because you can return the bags if they don’t work out for you. You cannot return bags from The Real Real. In addition, some of the influencers I follow buy from Fashionphile and their bags always look top notch. Rebag is another handbag reseller that I haven’t tried but have heard good things about.

I’ve never purchased from Vestaire Collective, but I see they have authentication, which is great, and other resale sites sell through Vestaire Collective and are listed as “trusted” resellers. Selling on Vestiaire is also great and the fees are the lowest in the industry.

I sell on eBay but rarely buy. Much like Poshmark, eBay sells everything under the sun, but it also has good filters to get to exactly what you’re looking for.

BONUS: Estate Sales are amazing for finding great luxury and vintage pieces in particular. I have purchased Fendi, Prada, YSL, expensive Men’s suits and more from estate sales over the years. It’s one of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday morning. I signed up for weekly alerts through EstateSales.net and you get photos of they type of things that will be included in sales in your area. The alerts also include moving sales, which are great for getting contemporary and current pieces.
